Angelique Sabrina, Singer/songwriter


 

 Angelique Sabrina (born February 7, 1998), a successful Bahamas-born singer/songwriter started performing on the Island at 11 years old and recorded her first single at 12. This received attention from radio stations all over the world. Growing up, her music producer and father, Gregg White engaged her in intense practice of the piano, guitar, and drums and oversaw her studies of the Broadway and Disney Classics, and musical artists like Frank Sinatra and Diana Ross. Angelique Sabrina is now the face of Cable Bahamas and has been named one of the Top 40 under 40 on the Island in 2013.

Demetrius Pinder, Olympian

 

 

Demetrius Pinder (born on Febrary 13th, 1989) is a track and field star who grew up in Grand Bahama, Bahamas and, in 2011, broke the 400 m indoor Bahamian national record of 45.78 seconds. He has won championships in Istanbul, Mayaguez and Miramar. He most recently competed in the 2012 London Olympics where he was a 400 m finalist and relay gold medalist. Pinder is based in Freeport and is in his senior year studying Liberal Arts and Theatre.

 Mychal Thompson, Basketball Player

 

 

Mychal George Thompson (born on January 30, 1955), was born in Nassau, Bahamas.  He attended highschool in Miami, Florida before college at the University of Minnesota. He made his NBA debut with the Portland Trail Blazers on October 15th, 1978. At just 23 years old, he was the number one pick for the draft and the first foreign-born player to be selected first. Since then, he has played for the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers as power forward and center positions. He is now retired from the game and a radio color commentator for the Lakers. He regularly shares his knowledge on daily shows related to Sports.

Calvin Lockhart, Movie Actor


 

Calvin Lockhart (born as Bert Cooper on October 18th, 1934) was a Bahamian-American film and broadway actor. He moved to New York City at just 18 years old, where he drove a taxi to support himself while establishing his acting career. He made his debut in 1960, playing a gang leader in The Cool World and played a supporting role alongside Eddie Murphy in the popular film, Coming to America. After traveling and working around Europe and the United States, Lockhart returned home to the Bahamas to take on the role of director for many films of the Freeport Players Guild. After his death in 2007, his wife and son established the Calvin Lockhart Scholarship Fund for Bahamians students interested in movie production.

Bert Williams, Broadway Actor


 

 

William Bert (born on November 12, 1874) grew up in New Providence, Nassau, in the British West Indies. In 1893 he began his journey to being a central figure in the vaudeville era, starting with New York City. His acts consisted of singing, dancing, and pantomiming in clubs, cabarets and theaters across the United States. He starred in shows such as, “The Gold Bug” and “The Ziegfeld Follies” and appeared in the film “A Natural Born Gambler” in 1916. While being subject to racism, Williams broke many colour lines, topping most charts between 1900 and 1920.
